Absolutely. Someone with the American nationality / US person can open a pension account (box 1), but not an investment account (box 3).

Additionally, someone with the American nationality will not receive shares for the enrollment fee.

The reason for this is because of the American Tax Authority. Therefore, Dutch banks, investment institutions, and asset managers generally do not offer investment accounts (anymore) for people with an American passport.

This does not apply to the pension account – annuity – which is why someone with an American passport can become a customer at BrightPensioen with a pension account.
